Yujin Huh (b.1978)
 

 From 11/06 to 11/26, Gallery Yeh is presenting the special exhibition of Yujin Huh, a young artist who is globally renowned through last year’s Asian Contemporary Art Fair in New York. She claims that painting proves her existence, and that this consciousness of her existence through art makes her alive. The accurate and detailed depiction of subjects is among the characteristics of her paintings. To her, ethos or perspective of an artist is expressed not through how a subject is portrayed but through what the subject matter is. Bottles that are often depicted in her paintings symbolize modern mass-production process, and are reflections of the need to address the societal issues through various means. Notion of secrecy that emerges from transparent bottles works as a medium to reflect reality. In contrast with the foreground where vivid color palettes are used, the background of the painting is blurred to evoke tense and mysterious atmosphere. The juxtaposition mentioned above also signifies the difference between subjectivity of matters and embellished illusion. The works of Yujin Huh will not only elicit thoughts and interpretation, but also bring experience where originality is truly appreciated.
