Chongbum Choi-visual performance
Jongbun Choi, through CG animation, multi-media, and electric music, is expanding the possibility of digital image arts. He covers the theme of how the light and sound will approach different groups of people with varying impression. In pursuing this theme, he established a new genre called ‘visual performance,’ in which he spontaneously directs image and sound.
Nicholas Bodde
Nicholas Bodde constantly studies color and constructions that emphasize color. Oil on acryl panel and acrylic paints applied vertically and horizontally in lines and spaces are some characteristics of his works. In Nicholas Bodde’s works, the viewers will be able to examine how color, line, and space are interpreted and emulated by an artist.
Bradley Narduzzi Rex
Bradley Narduzzi Rex, actively working in Mexico and the U.S., encompasses various medium, culture, and places. Rex approaches 2D arts architecturally, as apparent in his works that resemble graffiti.
Arman
As one of the most prominent French Nouveau Realists, Arman produced many works including Long Term Parking, 1982, A La Republique, 1984, Consigne a Vie, 1984, and L’heure de Tout, 1984. The Gallery Yeh has been holding Arman’s exhibition from 1997, and held his first posthumous exhibition in 2005.
Alex Katz
Alex Katz is a figural artist who persistently chased ‘conception’ in the midst of abstraction “frenzy,” and whose works produced a new and distinctive genre called the ‘New York portrait.’ The works that are being introduced in this exhibition originated from his earlier depiction of New York women in 1990s.
Jean-Michel Basquiat
In the 80’s artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s paintings, skulls and anime-characters can easily be found. To Basquiat, the theme of “death” was an inevitable process in studying class division, suppression, civilization, and pop culture. Iconographic symbols in his works accurately translate his attitude. He was once a graffiti artist abandoned by the society, but now, he is regarded as an archetype of liberal neo-expressionists.
Candida Hofer Candida Hofer is a photographer who has been taking photos of public libraries, theaters, and museums for 30 years. Although her works can be mistaken as architectural photographs since they portray buildings of cultural importance, the absence of men can also imply new humanistic and cultural cause.
Jonathan Lasker
Jonathan Lasker adroitly incorporates ornamental paintings of the 70’s and minimalistic style that emphasizes property of a subject matter. Some identify him as a traditional abstractionist based on the use of energetic and ornamental lines, but unlike what they think, his lines are not spontaneously drawn. Rather, they are calculated based on color structure. He also studies traditional and persisting questions of painting, such as the problem of depicting the dichotomy between close-range view and distant view.
Julian Oppie
Julian Oppie, one of the artists of the YBA (Young British Artist), is successful both commercially and critically, and his works are currently exhibited at the MOMA (Museum of Modern Arts), New York. He reinterprets and codifies daily sceneries by simplifying/minimizing photographic images with computer graphic.
Donald Judd
A famous minimalist, Donald Judd was greatly enticed by architecture from the 70’s, and actively worked as an architect and a furniture designer. Based on “seriality” of matters, he studied how a cube can be transformed into a variety of forms. Judd’s furniture, made-to-order in Switzerland, has signature of the artist, demolishing the line between art and design.

세계를 움직이는 현대미술 아티스트 작품으로 마련된 'Into the Groove' 전시는 오프닝 특별이벤트로 미디어 아티스트 최종범 선생님의 퍼포먼스와 어우러지는 감각적인 Music과 다이내믹하고 파워풀한 Vjing도 함께 합니다. 크리스마스의 문화예술 파티가 될 예화랑에서 한해를 의미있게 정리하며 근사한 경험을 하시길 바랍니다.

Jongbum Choi 최종범
최종범은 CG애니메이션, 멀티미디어, 영상, 전자음악 등 다양한 분야의 작업으로 연극 및 무용공연,패션쇼, 미술전시 , 파티 등 여러 영역을 넘나들며 영상예술의 확장 가능성을 탐색해 가고 있는 미디어 아티스트이다. 그의 작업세계는 영상매체의 기본적인 요소라 할 수 있는 ‘빛’과 ‘소리’를 갖고서 공간과 시간, 그리고 보는 이의 시점에 따라 이 ‘빛’과 ‘소리’가 어떻게 보여 질 것인가를 작업의 주요테마로 하고 있다. 이러한 점에서 그는 자신 작업에서 영상과 사운드를 실시간으로 연출하여 시청각적으로 제시하는 퍼포먼스 즉 , ‘비주얼 퍼포먼스 (visual performance)’라는 새로운 장르를 만들어 개척해 나가고 있다.
Nicholas Bodde 니콜라스 보데
보데는 색에 대해 끊임없이 물음을 던지며 색채를 통한 구조물을 만드는데 관심을 기울인다. 알루미늄판 위에 유화, 아크릴 물감을 좁거나 넓은 선과 면으로 분할해서 위에서 아래로, 왼쪽에서 오른쪽으로 배열해 칠하는 방식을 고집해 오고 있는 보데의 작업을 통해서 관객은 색과 선이 갖고 있는 의미가 한 작가의 그림 안에서 어떻게 변주 되는지를 살펴 볼 수 있는 기회를 갖게 된다.
Bradley Narudzzi Rex 브레들리 나르두지 렉스
미국과 멕시코를 오가면서 활동을 벌이고 있는 미국출신의 작가 브래들리 나르두지 렉스는 다양한 장소성, 매체, 그리고 문화를 아우른다. 뉴욕 콜롬비아 대학의 건축학과와 1992년 구겐하임 장학금으로 베니스 건축학교(Tolentini)를 졸업한 렉스는 건축가의 시점에서 2차원적인 평면을 접근한다. 그의 빌보드 회화는 주로 버려진 건물이나 거리의 벽면에서 발견될 법한 일종의 낙서들로 이루어진 듯한 인상을 준다.
Arman 아르망
대표적인 프랑스의 누보 리얼리즘 작가로 1982년 까르띠에 재단에 설치된 장기주차 (Long Term Parking)을 비롯하여 1984년 프랑스 대통령으로부터 엘리제 궁에 조각품 제작의뢰를 받아 공화(A La Republique)을 제작하였고, <영원한 보관소(Consigne a Vie)>와 <모두의 시간(L'heure de Tout)>등의 작품은 생-라자르 역에 설치되어 있다. 이러한 업적을 인정받아 아르망은 프랑스 대통령으로부터 프랑스 레종 도뇌르명예훈장을 두 차례나 수상한바 있다. 예화랑에서는 1997년부터 아르망의 전시회를 개최하여왔고 특히2005년 예화랑에서 열린 그의 전시회는 전세계적으로 최초의 유작전이 되었다.
Alex Katz 알렉스 카츠
카츠는 1960년대 이후 추상일색의 뉴욕 화단에서 구상을 고집해온 초상화가이다. 그의 작업은 뉴욕 초상화라는 독특한 장르를 만들어 내었으며 92세의 나이에도 왕성한 활동을 벌이고 있는 미국의 대표적인 원로 작가이다. 이번 전시회에서 소개될 작업은 카츠가 1990년대에 제작한 도시의 여성들의 이미지로부터 유래하였다.
Jean-Michel Basquiat 장미쉘바스키아
1980 년대 뉴욕 미술계의 풍운아 바스키아의 작품에는 해골이나 만화 캐릭터 같은 이미지들이 빈번하게 등장한다. 작가에게 죽음은 인간의 운명, 계급투쟁과 억압, 그리고 대중문화에 대한 애정에서 비롯된 탐구 작업이었다. 도상학적인 상징들을 즐겨 사용한 작품들의 경우 이러한 그의 태도를 가장 잘 반영한다. 그는 한때 사회에서 버림받은 낙서광이었으나 오늘날에는 팝아트 계열의 천재적인 자유구상화가로 평가 받고 있다.
Candida Hofer 칸디다호퍼
하퍼는 30여 년 동안 공공 도서관이나 오페라 극장, 박물관 등 공적인 공간을 렌즈에 담아온 독일의 대표적인 사진 작가이다. 그녀의 사진은 인간의 문화 유산이 집중된 장소의 내부를 다루고 있기 때문에 건축사진으로 오인하기 쉽지만, 사진 속에 인간이 존재하지 않는다는 점을 시작으로 다양한 인문화적 사유를 함축하고 있다.
Jonathan Lasker 조나단 라스커
라스커는 70년대 장식적 회화와 물성을 강조하는 미니멀적인 회화 전통을 교묘하게 결합한 미국의 추상화가이다. 장식적이거나 낙서와 같이 유동적인 선으로 이루어진 점에 미루어 보아 그의 작업을 전통적인 추상표현주의나 여타 표현주의적인 회화들과 비교하고는 하지만 그의 선들은 즉흥적인 것이라기 보다는 철저하게 계산된 색상 이론에 기반을 두고 있다. 작가는 근경, 원경 사이의 이분법이나 대상을 회화적으로 재현하는 다양한 방식과 같이 전통적인 회화적 문제들에 매달려 왔다. 그의 작업은 미국 뉴욕의 휘트니 미술관과 워싱턴의 허쉬혼 미술관 등에 소장되어 있다.
Julian Oppie 줄리안 오피
영국 젊은 작가들의 그룹인 YBA (Young British Artist)의 대표적인 작가들 중 하나인 오피는 현대 상업적으로나 비평적으로 모두 성공을 거두고 있으며 그의 작업은 뉴욕 현대 미술관에도 소장되어있다. 오피는 일상의 풍경을 동화책의 삽화처럼 약호화된 기본형식으로 재해석하고자 한 결과이며 특히 일상적인 대상들을 찍은 사진 이미지를 컴퓨터 그래픽으로 간략화하여 그와 같은 효과를 얻어내고 있다.
Donald Judd 도널드저드
대표적인 미니멀 작가인 저드는 1970년대 이후부터 건축에 지대한 관심을 보여 왔으며 1980년대 이후 건축가, 가구 디자이너로 활동하여 왔다. 반복성(seriality)에 근거하여 단순한 입방체가 다양한 형태로 변조되는 데에 관심을 기울여왔다. 저드 파운데이션에 의하여 스위스에서 주문 생산된 저드의 가구에는 파운데이션의 도장이 찍혀있으며 예술과 디자인의 구분을 허물고 있다.

영국 젊은 작가들의 그룹인 YBA (Young British Artist)의 대표적인 작가들 중 하나인 오피는 현대 상업적으로나 비평적으로 모두 성공을 거두고 있으며 그의 작업은 뉴욕 현대 미술관에도 소장되어있다. 오피는 일상의 풍경을 동화책의 삽화처럼 약호화된 기본형식으로 재해석하고자 한 결과이며 특히 일상적인 대상들을 찍은 사진 이미지를 컴퓨터 그래픽으로 간략화하여 그와 같은 효과를 얻어내고 있다.
Donald Judd 도널드저드
대표적인 미니멀 작가인 저드는 1970년대 이후부터 건축에 지대한 관심을 보여 왔으며 1980년대 이후 건축가, 가구 디자이너로 활동하여 왔다. 반복성(seriality)에 근거하여 단순한 입방체가 다양한 형태로 변조되는 데에 관심을 기울여왔다. 저드 파운데이션에 의하여 스위스에서 주문 생산된 저드의 가구에는 파운데이션의 도장이 찍혀있으며 예술과 디자인의 구분을 허물고 있다.
