In 2005, Gallery Yeh was reorganized as a fragrant cultural place at the center of Seoul City. The first exhibition after the reopening of the gallery was for displaying for the first time in the world the posthumous works of Armand Fernandez a great modern artist, since news that the master artist was dead reached those who were making preparations for the exhibition. Jacques Chirac the President of France expressed his official condolence and said, ‘It is my personal sorrow as well as the whole art world’s to hear of the news that Arman the great artist has died after serving as an enthusiastic creator in this age and having consistently shown his great ardor for artistic works till very recently.’ Arman was born in 1928 in Niece, France and died in October 2005 in New York. He is well known as the founder of Nouveau Realism a neo-realism artistic movement dispersing into Europe and the U.S. since the 1960s. His works, which are created through collecting, cutting, piling, or burning the materials produced and consumed in the modern industrial society, symbolically depict the anti-civilization irrationalities of consumption civilization. As the representative of France, Arman attended worldwide art fairs such as Basel Art Fair and Venice Biennale and he initiated about 450 private exhibitions and participated in more than 450 international group exhibitions. His large sculpture works include Long Term Parking set up in 1982 at Cartier Foundation, A La Republique set up in 1984 at Elysee Palace at the request of the President of France, and Consigne a Vie and L'heure de Tout standing at Gare Saint-Lazare, Paris. Arman’s works are favored by museums, art galleries, and individual art enthusiasts across the world. For such artistic achievement, Arman has been awarded with an honorary medal called Legion d’Honneur two times by the President of France. Gallery Yeh will host an exhibition of the works of Arman, which are characterized by the touchable sections of a perpendicularly cut human body connected with hinges and by many sculpture pieces whose shapes are changeable. Other display articles comprise about 40 of Arman’s latest interactive sculpture works such as those describing cello’s formative sections with elegant colors and serigraph engravings depicting violin’s beautiful shape. In paticular, visitors can personally open and/or close Arman’s sculpture works series, unlike in the existing exhibition spaces where they cannot touch the display, so that the appreciators may interact and interrelate with the displayed works more actively.
